Come and relax at a real Maine hideaway! Property is very secluded at the end of a dirt road on 1.3 acres with 100 feet of frontage on Johnson Cove. Johnson Cove is tidal -- 2 high tides and 2 low tides each day. Large dock and attached float provide easy access for boating and swimming at high tide (eight- to ten-feet deep at high tide, and warmer than the open ocean) and fun clamming at low tide. Lawn area on 3 sides of the house. Built in 1993, this four-bedroom home has many amenities: contemporary furnishings, high speed wireless Internet, river-rock fireplace in the living room, wraparound deck on main living level, upper deck off the master bedroom, and a short walk to the town market, school playground, library and hardware store. Our calendar is updated regularly so please check that first. _________________________________________ The house has an open floor plan on the main floor with the kitchen, dining room and living room with fireplace all connected making it easy for groups to hang out together. Main floor includes: Kitchen, dining room, living room with fireplace, den with TV and pullout couch, bedroom with full bed and full bathroom. Second floor includes: master bedroom with queen bed and access to upper deck, bedroom with queen bed, bedroom with 2 twin beds, full bathroom, access to the loft. Loft includes: 4 twin mattresses on the floor. NOTE: loft access is via a ladder through a trap door. Kids love it! You can see more details about this in the video posted on YouTube when you search for "Seachimes 61422". One thing to note about the video is that we have recently updated paint and carpet as well as we've replaced the bunk beds with 2 single beds in the 3rd upstairs bedroom but the video will give you a very good sense of the house layout. Basement includes: Laundry room, ping-pong table, foosball table, lawn games, water-based toys, life jackets, beach towels. ______________________________ The Tidal Experience: Many guests have asked about what it's like on a tidal cove. At high tide the water is more like a pond and will give you about 5-6 hours of swimming and boating as the water is 8-10 feet high. We've been known to jump off the dock and then climb up the ladder. At low tide, you can walk into the mud and even dig for some clams to have as an appetizer later. The time of the high tide changes throughout the year but there are websites where you can find the time for high and low tides. We also provide a tide calendar at the house. Personally, I find it very relaxing to sit on the dock to watch the water slowly leave or return to the cove every day. I am fairly sensitive to smells and can assure you that there is no fishy smell at low tide. If you do want to tromp around in the mud, I recommend rubber boots or swim shoes. ____________ Video Available: If you search on YouTube for 'Seachimes 61422' you will find a 3 minute video showcasing the property and the house. Please note that we have recently painted and replaced some carpets as well as replacing the bunk beds to two separate twin beds.

We’re still trying to adjust to life in South Florida again, but we keep dreaming of Maine and all its wonders. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and had a terrific time at the lake. We swam, fished, canoed, and picked wild blueberries and raspberries down at the edge of the water. In the evenings we would sit by the fire, roast marshmallows and then step outside to watch the night sky filled with thousands of stars. Though we’ve stayed in other houses in Maine, your house is in a wonderful location and so comfortable. Our favorite activity is to pack a lunch and to go sit on the rock ledge by the lake where we picnic, swim, canoe, and fish. Afterwards we finish our day with a scoop of ice cream at Round Pond. We also explored the different peninsulas, ate lobster rolls (repeatedly), and enjoyed every second of the cool weather. Damariscotta is a lovely little town as are so many in the surrounding area. You are coming to mid-coast Maine this summer for a reason. That reason can probably be summed-up by a few simple words: unspoiled, welcoming, close enough to engage with civilization’s charms but remote enough to fulfill a desire for restful solitude and quiet beauty. Those words pretty much sum up The Aerie, as well.   Located on two acres at the very end of the Cushing peninsula, it boasts 250 feet of water frontage on both sides of the property: Davis Cove and it’s incredible sunsets across open water looking northwest, and Pleasant Point Gut which looks out on Gay Island to the south. The gently sloping rocks out front, warmed by the sun, make mid to high tide swimming warmer than expected and offer easy access for kayaking at all tides. There are only five homes at this end of the peninsula, so privacy is a given.   A five minute walk down a private lane brings you to a small harbor where you can pick up lobsters at dock prices straight off the boats that fish the surrounding waters of Muscongus Bay. After doing the dishes, you’ll probably want to build a fire in the firepit that overlooks the water and do a little star or satellite gazing under the wide-open sky above.   We like to think of the house itself as a Goldilocks house because, like the bed she chose to sleep in, it’s “just right.” Simple, but very well-appointed with a properly-stocked kitchen that overlooks the main, light-filled living and dining areas, as well as an outside deck. There is a separate den for music, games (lots provided) and television watching with a sleeper sofa to accommodate an overnight guest or two should the need arise. The downstairs bedroom sports a king bed, while the upstairs “Aerie bedroom” with its magnificent 360 degree view has a queen. There is a full bathroom on the first floor. The water, less than 50 yards away, is visible from just about every vantage point in and out of the house. Loons and Bald Eagles are frequent visitors.   This is Wyeth country, all right—Andrew Wyeth is buried at The Olsen House (a must visit), just down the road—and The Aerie is a perfect way to sample its singular beauty. Boating : Pemaquid Harbor provides free community access (boat ramp at the 'Fort') to the waterfront for all types of marine craft, from sail, motor to kayak. Re: kayaking, local rentals/guided tours are available in the town of Pemaquid. Tie-up for small, row and motor boats is facilitated at the Pemaquid town dock; however, the dock is seized upon by boats throughout the summer, so access is on a 'first-come, first-served' basis. Wonderful, sunset, puffin- and whale-watching cruises are offered by the comfortable 'Hardy' passenger vessel out of New Harbor. The Hardy Boat also takes day tripping passengers to and from magical, Monhegan Island 10 miles out to sea. Hiking the island's cathedral woods and coastline are breath-taking and memorable experiences. Finally, charter/touring boats operate out of nearby Boothbay Harbor. On such a day trip, you might charter a deep-sea-fishing vessel and return home at dusk with, if you're lucky, many flounder, strippers or even a tuna. And now, Booth Bay boasts a magnificent botanical gardens.

The house was designed specifically for wheelchair access with an open floor plan, extra wide doorways, an elevator, a generator and a 2nd floor emergency exit ramp. There is no-step access into and throughout the house. The accessible bedroom has an extra-wide attached bath with roll-in shower, roll under sink and grab bars. It provides access from the entry all the way to the private dock. Please email for specific measurements. The house sits at the end of the private road on the shore of the lake. There is a good sized yard and a private dock from which to enjoy boating, swimming and fishing. There is a fire pit and several adirondack chairs in which you can relax. We now also provide guests with the use of 2, 10ft recreational kayaks. The lake itself is approximately 7 miles long, is known as one of the warmest lakes in the area and is great for swimming. It also provides access to several other connecting lakes via kayak and is a great spot for boating of all kinds. The property is a short walk to a small park with a boat launch and ball field.
